Tennis Wraps Up Competition At Louisville Invitational

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The University of Wyoming women'stennis team wrapped up a busy weekend of competition Sunday at theLouisville Invitational in Louisville, Ky.

In singles action, the Cowgirls were led by freshman Yuliani Santi, whowent 3-1 in the D bracket, good for second place. Santi lost thebracket championship match 6-2, 6-1 to Karen Falduto of Duke. Also inthe D bracket, Jen Hancock went 2-1 for Wyoming.

In A bracket action the Cowgirls were paced by junior Sofi Espinosa.Espinosa was 3-2, including two three-set matches. Also in the Abracket was freshman Jenny Bowman, who went 1-2 on the weekend.

Senior Angela Dossetor was 1-2 in the B bracket and freshman StacyKneese was 2-1. Kneese was victorious in two three-set matches beforefalling in another three-setter. Wyoming also had two individuals inthe C bracket, where sophomore Paulina del Monte went 2-2 and freshmanToni Terhaar was 0-2.

The Cowgirls performed well in doubles action as well. In the Bbracket, both doubles teams were 2-1. The teams of del Monte-Santi andHancock-Terhaar both looked strong before falling in close matches. Indoubles A bracket action, the team of Dossetor-Espinosa was 1-1 whilethe team of Bowman-Kneese went 0-2.

"This was our best performance of the fall season," said Wyoming headcoach Pam Davis. "It was nice to end the fall on a positive note, andit came against a very difficult field. I'm very happy and proud of theway we competed. I was impressed with the girls and we are becomingmore of a team each time out.

"We learned a lot about ourselves this weekend," said Davis. "We'restill looking for the right combinations in our doubles teams, butoverall I think the girls are getting to a point where they are learningeach other's games better. We now have the winter to practice and tryto put the right doubles partners together for the spring season."

There is one remaining competition this fall season for Wyoming. TheCentral Regional will be held Nov. 1-5 in Omaha, Neb. The competitorshaven't been announced, and the Cowgirls must wait to hear who has beenselected to play.
