Six singles players and two doubles teams were in action today at the Lobo Invitational, on Saturday, in Albuquerque.
In singles play, Alexandra Kovacs defeated her opponent Marlena Pietzuch of Boise State, 6-1, 6-4, as did Veronica Popovici, 6-0, 6-1, over Caroline Stark of Texas Tech. Senior Kim van Ginkel is 3-0 on the weekend as she defeated Laura Richardson (New Mexico), 6-1, 6-0. Simona Syknova recorded a 6-3, 6-4 win over Sonia Klamczyska of Boise STate. Sasa Nemcova earned a straight set win, 6-1, 6-1, over Marie LeBlond (UTEP), while Carly Van Hollen defeated Amy Shipperd of New Mexico, 6-1, 6-1.
In doubles action, the team of Synkova and van Ginkel earned an 8-4 win over Caroline Stark and Nikki Sanders of Texas Tech, 8-4, along with their teammates Kovacs and Popovici, 9-8 (7-3). Kovacs and Popvici would earn their way to that match with an 8-4 win over Trierweiler and DeLuca (UTEP).
The Lobo Invitational will conclude tomorrow with singles and doubles action.
