DALLAS, Texas -
The Wyoming tennis team finished with a 6-3 record on the opening day of the Blue and Red Challenge on Friday afternoon. The Cowgirls were paired up for matches in singles and doubles against the Sam Houston State Bearkats.
“It was good to see the ladies play with the intensity and fire as one single unit,” UW head coach Dean Clower said. “Each player brought it today and it was nice to see. Doubles is getting better but we have much to improve on.”
Magdalena Stencel needed three sets, 4-6,7-5, 6-2 in her victory over Fabienne Gettwart while Nastya Tokareva defeated Khee Yen Wee, 7-5, 7-6. Dorottya Jonas dropped only one game in her 6-0, 6-1 win over Ema Barkovic. Junior Miranda Talbert won 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 over Mila Milanovic. Elisa Koonik fell short, 3-6, 7-6, 6-4, against Carrie Casey while Maddie Mortimore defeated Tessa van Der Ploeg, 6-2, 6-4.
The Cowgirls continued solid play in doubles action by taking two of three matches. The number one team won 6-4 followed by the second team with a 6-2 victory.
Wyoming will return to action tomorrow with matches at the host school SMU beginning at 3:30 p.m.
