Cowgirl Tennis Wraps Up Fall Season At Lobo Invitational

The Cowgirl Tennis Team came away with three singles and one doubles title to wrap up their weekend at the Lobo Invitational on Sunday in Albuquerque.

"We won three singles titles out of the four finals we were in and one doubles title," said head coach Kati Gyulai. "We got better with each tournament this fall and that's what we were looking for. We will take the off season to continue working and look forward to an excellent spring season."

Sophomores Simona Synkova and Sasa Nemcova completed their weekends with titles. Synkova defeated Nikki Sanders of Texas Tech in three sets, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1, while Nemcova earned a straight set win, 6-4, 6-2, against teammate Carly Van Hollen. Alexandra Kovacs won 6-0, 6-2 over Morgan Basil of Boise State to win her flight. Freshman Veronica Popovici fell to Arizona's Sarah Landsman, 7-6 (8-6), 6-4, while Kim van Ginkel lost to Haley Fournier, 6-2, 7-5.

The doubles team of Kim van Ginkel and Simona Synkova took away the doubles title on Saturday against their teammates Veronica Popovici and Alexandra Kovacs, 9-8 (7-3).

The Cowgirls will resume play on January 23, against the Northern Colorado Bears, in Greeley.
