DALLAS, Texas -
Three doubles teams and three individuals earned victories as the UW tennis team closed out the fall season at the Blue and Red Challenge in Dallas. The Cowgirls were paired up against the South Alabama Jaguars.
"Today was by far the best we have played all fall," head coach Dean Clower said. "It was good to see the players come together and put into play a lot of things we've been working on. I hope this helps us get prepared for the spring."
Wyoming opened up the day by winning three of four matches in doubles play. Jessica Parizher and Nastya Tokareva defeated Michaela Meszarosova and Silvia Martinkova, 8-3. Cecilia Mercier and Dorottya Jonas earned an 8-4 win over Cinta Maria Papke and Paula Sanchez while Christa Gecheva and Jonas were victorious, 5-7, 6-2, 7-6, against Sanchez and Emily Newton. In the first match of the day, Laura Valkova and Newton beat Gecheva and Magdalena Stencel, 8-2.
Three individuals took away victories in singles action. Stencel won in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, over Valkova, followed by Tokareva, 7-6, 7-5, over Papke. Silviya Zhelyazkova needed three sets, but defeated Meszarosova, 3-6, 6-4, 6-1. Parizher lost to Laura Matuskova, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, while Mercier dropped her match against Martinkova, 6-3, 6-2.
Wyoming will return to regular season action on Jan. 9, 2015 at the Tulsa Hidden Duals.
