LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The Wyoming tennis team will return to action this weekend at the Hurricane Invite in Tulsa, Okla. The Cowgirls will face Drake, Nicholls State and Tulsa beginning on Friday.
"It's nice to finally get back to work,” UW head tennis coach Dean Clower said. “I think the players are ready for the grind and we look forward to seeing where we are at this upcoming week. I am optimistic about the spring as we have our top 3 returning from a year ago and the newcomers are all ready to work at any given time. Like every year at this time or any time, I expect us to get better each and every day to be ready for conference."
Wyoming competed in five tournaments during the fall and had some solid showings led by sophomore Magdalena Stencel and senior Nastya Tokareva. Both posted 6-4 singles records, while in doubles action the duo went 3-0. Junior Dorottya Jonas recorded a mark of 5-4 in singles and 4-4 in doubles play.
Four newcomers also saw the court for the Cowgirls in the fall. Sanne Hoekstra went 4-4 to begin her freshman campaign followed by junior Miranda Talbert with a mark of 5-6. Freshmen Elisa Koonik and Tessa van Der Ploeg combined for six wins as well.
After this weekend, the Cowgirls will open up dual action against the 12th ranked Oklahoma State Cowgirls on Tuesday, Jan. 12, and the Oral Roberts on Sunday, Jan. 17.
