LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The Cowgirl tennis team will host their first of five home matches of the spring on Friday night. Wyoming will welcome the Colorado Mesa Mavericks to the UW Indoor Tennis Complex beginning at 5:00 p.m.
"The team is extremely excited to play at home in front of our great fans," said head coach Dean Clower. "We have had tough practices over the past two weeks and hope to put into play the things we have been working on. I think the fans are also excited to see the team and the new freshmen we brought on board."
The Cowgirls currently hold a 1-1 record with a victory over the Texas State Bobcats on January 19. They are led by senior Veronica Popovici with an overall record of 10-5 this season. Freshman Dorottya Jonas has recorded a 10-9 mark during her first season, while Jessica Parizher, Silviya Zhelyazkova and Christa Gecheva each have seven victories. Popovici and Jonas are 9-9 in doubles action, while Espinosa and Gecheva have a 4-3 mark.
Colorado Mesa enters the weekend with a 4-0 overall record. This will be only the second meeting between the two schools. UW won the only meeting on Jan. 21, 2011 by a score of 6-0. The Mavericks are coached by Dan MacDonald.
