The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team will continue their season this weekend by playing two matches at home. They will host the Metro State Roadrunners on Saturday, March 1, and the Northern Colorado Bears, on Sunday, March 2. Both matches are set for 12:00 p.m. in the UW Tennis Complex.
The Cowgirls currently hold a 2-2 overall record on the season with wins over Colorado Mesa and Texas State. They are led by senior Veronica Popovici with an overall record of 11-6 this season. Freshman Dorottya Jonas has recorded a 11-10 mark during her first season, while Silviya Zhelyazkova currently sits at 9-8 overall and 1-3 in dual play this spring. Popovici and Jessica Parizher are 2-0 this spring at the number one doubles spot, while Alma Espinosa and Christa Gecheva are 2-2 in dual action.
The Roadrunners enter the week with an overall record of 1-7. This will be only the second meeting between the two teams. The last time the two met was March 1, 2009 as the Cowgirls defeated Metro State, 7-0. The Roadrunners are coached by Daniel Hangstefer who is in his first season with the program.
The Bears are currently 4-4 overall and will face Eastern Washington on Saturday before taking on the Cowgirls. This will be the 14th meeting between the two schools. Wyoming holds the series record 12-1. The last time the two met was January 23, 2011 with the Cowgirls coming out on top by a score of 7-0. UNC is coached by Brenda Vlasak who is in her ninth year at the helm and her 11th overall.
