LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team will host their final non-conference match of the season this weekend. They welcome the Weber State Wildcats on Sunday, March 27, beginning at 10:00 a.m. The match will be played at the UW Indoor Tennis Complex.
The City of Laramie has granted a temporary occupancy permit in order for this tennis match to be played on the new courts. However, since many areas are still under construction, please follow all directional signs and do not enter areas posted as restricted. A Grand Opening for the facility will be announced at a later date.
The Cowgirls enter this week's competition with an overall record of 9-3 overall and ranked 68th in the Campbell/ITA National Poll. They are riding a four-match winning streak. Wyoming is currently led by freshman Veronica Popovici who comes in with a 21-6 record overall in singles play and an 15-4 mark in doubles. Senior Kim van Ginkel follows with an 18-5 record on the year, while two other players have recorded 16 wins.
"We are past the mid-point in our season and it is nice to get back in the rankings. We look to forward to starting the MWC matches and to continue climbing in the rankings."
Weber State is currently 3-5 overall and 2-1 in the Big Sky Conference. They will face Colorado State before playing the Cowgirls. This is the fourth meeting between the two schools. Wyoming leads the series 3-0. The last time the two teams met was March 29, 2009. The Cowgirls won the match 4-3 in Ogden. The Wildcats are coached by Jonas Erhlin.
