The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team will play their final home match of the 2013 spring season this weekend. They will welcome the Colorado State Rams, on Saturday, March 30. The match is set to be played at 11:00 a.m. at the UW Indoor Tennis Complex. Cowgirl seniors, Alexandra Kovacs, Sasa Nemcova and Simona Synkova, will be recognized prior to the match.
"The team is excited for our final home match against our rival Colorado State," said head coach Dean Clower. "The team loves playing in front of our crowd and can't wait for Saturday. We hope to have a huge crowd to help support us take on the Rams"
The Cowgirls currently hold a 7-7 season record and a 1-0 mark in league play. They are led by junior Veronica Popovici with an overall record of 14-8 overall and a 7-5 dual mark at the number one singles position. Sophomore Jessica Parizher is 17-10 overall and 7-6 during dual play, while Sasa Nemcova has a 10-11 record and won six out of her last seven matches. Popovici and Synkova are 18-7 overall and 7-5 in doubles action this spring. Parizher and Silviya Zhelyazkova are 8-5 in dual action along with Kovacs and Nemcova with a 6-5 record.
CSU is currently 3-8 overall and 0-1 in conference play. This will be the 21st meeting between the two schools. Colorado State leads the series 14-6. The last time the two teams met was April 14, 2012 as the Cowgirls defeated the Rams 7-0 in Ft. Collins. CSU is coached by Jon Messick who is in his 29th season with the program.
