LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team will close out the regular season by hosting the Northern Colorado Bears, on Sunday, April 17 at noon. The match will be played at the UW Tennis Courts and admission is free.
"It's a nice way to finish out the regular season being at home," said head coach Pam Wildt. "We seem to be well rested and having a match like this should really give us some confidence heading in to the conference tournament. Hopefully, the weather will cooperate and we can get the fans out to support us."
The Cowgirls enter this week's competition with an overall record of 8-11 and 1-6 in the MWC. Wyoming is currently led by freshman Corina Lazar who has a singles record of 16-15 overall. Sophomore Andrea House sits at a 13-12 mark in singles play and Patricia Chien is 15-15 overall. The doubles team of Patricia Chien and Karolina Rowinski has a record of 14-13 followed by Andrea House and Gwen Moser at 13-13.
The Bears are currently 5-9 overall. They return three letterwinners and welcome four newcomers to a team that finished 11-7 overall a year ago in their first season of Division I tennis. This will be the ninth meeting between the two schools. Wyoming holds a 7-1 lead in the series. The last time the two teams met was Feb. 15, 2003 when the Cowgirls defeated the Bears, 6-1. Northern Colorado is coached by Brenda Vlasak who is in her third year with the program.
