The Wyoming Cowgirl tennis team will close out the Mountain West Conference regular season by hosting two matches this weekend. They will face the Colorado State Rams, on Friday, April 22, and the Air Force Falcons, on Sunday, April 24. The Friday match is set for 3:00 p.m. while the Sunday match is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Both matches will be played at the UW Tennis Complex.
"We have an exciting weekend ahead of us as we close out MWC play and honor our three seniors," said head coach Kati Gyulai. "They have contributed immensely to our line-up. We congratulate them on graduating and thank them for representing the University of Wyoming with heart, legs and pride. Rebecca (Berger) is also looking to tie the school record for most singles wins. We are excited to play these final matches at home because we have the best fans."
The Cowgirls enter this week's competition with an overall record of 11-8 and 1-5 in the Mountain West Conference. Wyoming is currently led by freshman Veronica Popovici who comes in with a 24-9 record overall in singles play and a 19-7 mark in doubles. Senior Kim van Ginkel follows with a 22-8 record on the year, while Sasa Nemcova has 19 wins and Simona Synkova with 18 victories.
The Rams are currently 8-11 overall and 0-6 in the MWC. This is the 19th meeting between the two schools. CSU leads the series 14-4. The last time the two teams met was April 23, 2010. The Cowgirls won the match 6-1 in Fort Collins. Colorado State is coached by Jon Messick.
Air Force is 15-9 overall, 1-5 in the MWC and will play Colorado State before facing the Cowgirls. This is the 19th meeting between the two schools. Wyoming leads the series 12-6. The last time the two teams met was April 24, 2010. UW won the match 5-2. The Falcons are coached by Kim Gidley.
