The Wyoming women's tennis team will face the Air Force Academy Falcons in the 2006 Mountain West Conference Tennis Tournament, on Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. MT in San Diego, Calif. This will be the second meeting this year between the two schools, as well as the second meeting in MWC tournament history.
The Cowgirls enter the week as the ninth seed while the Falcons are the eighth seed in the tournament. The winner will take on the top seeded TCU Horned Frogs on Thursday.
"We are excited about playing Air Force in our first match of the Mountain West Conference Tournament," said head coach Krissy Hall. "We lost a 4-3 heartbreaker to them earlier this spring and are looking forward to this opportunity to play them again. We have been preparing over the last week and feel good about our chances heading into this match."
The Cowgirls enter this week's competition with an overall record of 8-14 and 0-8 in the MWC. Wyoming is currently led by junior Andrea House with a singles record of 16-12 overall, 2-6 in conference play. Junior Karolina Rowinski sits at a 15-16 mark in singles play and Corina Lazar is 8-9 overall this spring.
Air Force is currently 9-17 overall and 1-7 in the MWC this season. They are led by Kelly Morgan who is 22-13 overall. She is followed by senior Kat Bushey with a record of 20-19 and Christine Abayan at 19-18. The Falcons return six letterwinners to a team that went 8-18 overall and 0-7 in conference play last year. Air Force is coached by Kim Gidley who is in her eighth season with the program.
This is the 12th meeting between the two teams. Air Force holds a 6-5 lead in the series. The last time the two teams met was March 4, 2006 when the Falcons defeated the Cowgirls, 4-3, in Colorado Springs.
