For only the second time in MWC tournament history, the Wyoming women's tennis team will face the New Mexico Lobos this Thursday. The Cowgirls will square off with the Lobos at the 2005 Mountain West Conference Tennis Tournament, on Thursday, April 28, 2005, at 11:00 a.m. MT in San Diego, Calif. The Cowgirls enter the week as the seventh seed while the Lobos are the second seed in the tournament. The Cowgirls enter this week's competition with an overall record of 8-11 and 1-6 in the MWC. Wyoming is currently led by freshman Corina Lazar who has a singles record of 17-15 overall. Sophomore Andrea House sits at a 14-12 mark in singles play and Patricia Chien is 16-15 overall at the number one position. The doubles team of Patricia Chien and Karolina Rowinski has a record of 15-13 followed by Andrea House and Gwen Moser at 14-13.
The Lobos are 14-8 overall and 6-1 in the MWC which helped them earn the second seed in the tournament. They are led by Iva Gersic who is currently 28-5 in singles play. She is followed closely by Maja Kovack who is 28-8. New Mexico returns seven letterwinners to a team that went 20-5 overall and 7-0 in the MWC a year ago. This is the tenth meeting between the two schools. UNM holds a 9-0 lead in the series. The last time the two teams met was April 3, 2005 when the Lobos defeated Wyoming 7-0 in Laramie. New Mexico is coached by Kathy Kolankiewicz who is in her 20th season with the program.
