Cowgirl Tennis Welcomes Biro and Popovici

University of Wyoming head tennis coach Kati Gyulai today announced the addition of two student-athletes to attend the University of Wyoming beginning in the fall of 2010.

"We are very excited to add Veronica (Popovici) and Zsofia (Biro) to our program," said Gyulai. "Both players bring tremendous international playing experience. We expect them to make an immediate impact in our line-up."

Here are the signees:

Zsofia Biro (Jo Fee U Bee Row), 5-5, Pecs, Hungary (Pecs Vocational Second School):
A top-ranked junior singles player in Hungary. Biro has been ranked in the top ten in juniors play and had an ITF ranking of 182. She has competed in some of the strongest ITF junior tournaments, which include the Casablanca Cup, Yucatan World Cup, among others. She is the daughter of Laszlo and Erzsebet Biro.

Veronica Popovici (Poepoe Vitch), 5-8, Piatra Neamt, Romania (High School #1 Suceava):
A top ranked junior and senior singles and doubles player. She currently ranks 1,111 on the Sony Ericsson WTA tour, while her highest singles ranking was 808th in 2008. In doubles, her ranking on the tour was 934th in 2009. She is the daughter of Mariana and Neculai Popovici.
