LARAMIE, Wyo. -
Wyoming women’s head tennis coach Dean Clower today announced the signing of four student-athletes to attend the University of Wyoming beginning in the fall of 2015.
“We feel this is one of the best recruiting classes we have had here at UW since my arrival,” Clower said. “This class brings a lot of experience, power and overall athletic ability. Each student-athlete has all the tools needed to excel in college tennis and will be a boost for us on and off the court.”
Here are the signees:
Sanne Hoekstra (Sauna Hoe Ek Struh), 5-7, Sneek, the Netherlands (RSG Magister Alvinus): A three-time regional champion while attending RSG Magister Alvinus. She reached the finals of the national senior tournament in singles while winning the doubles of the national senior tournament. Hoekstra is the daughter of Henk Hoekstra and Karin Smit. She has one sibling, Femke.
Elisa Koonik (A Lis Uh Coo Nick), 5-9, Tallinn, Estonia (Audentese Spordikool): A three-time Estonian Champion while attending Audentese Spordikool. She has won several ITF, ETA and national tournaments in both singles and doubles. Koonik was coached by Ain Suurthal. She is the daughter Remo Koonik and Kristel Uusvali and has one sister, Arabella.
Miranda Talbert, 5-7, Bradenton, Fla. (State College of Florida): An All-Suncoast Conference selection in singles and doubles during her first season at the State College of Florida. She was the 2014 singles and doubles spring State Champion while reaching the quarterfinals of the 2014 JUCO National Tournament. This past spring, she went undefeated in conference play in doubles at the number one position while being a state finalist at the number two singles spot and number one doubles. Her team won the Suncoast Conference Championship in 2015. Talbert reached the JUCO national semifinals in singles and the quarterfinals in doubles action. An excellent student, she was on the Academic President’s List all four semesters of junior college. Talbert is the daughter of Casey and Tara Talbert.
Tessa van Der Ploeg, 5-9, Leeuwarden, the Netherlands (Leeuwarder Lyceum HS): van Der Ploeg joins the Cowgirl program after a successful career. She currently ranks 40th in singles and 45th in doubles nationally. van Der Ploeg was a three-time Frisian District Champion. She was the under 16 Dutch National Champion, under 18 runner-up and reached the quarterfinals of the women’s national championship. van Der Ploeg is the daughter of Hendrik van Der Ploeg and Jana Santos. She has two siblings, Rowena and Kevin.
