LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The UW doubles team of Simona Synkova and Kim van Ginkel earned a spot in the preseason Campbell/ITA doubles rankings which was recently announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association. The ranking qualifies them to compete in the Riviera/Women's All-America Championships, Oct. 2-10, in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
"I am pleased to see that Simona and Kim are ranked so highly," said head coach Kati Gyulai. "They had a successful spring campaign and earned MWC honors along the way. They will get a chance to compete against some the best doubles teams at the ITA All-America Tournament."
Synkova and van Ginkel enter the fall season as the 32nd ranked doubles team in the country. Last season, the duo finished the year 59th nationally, while placing fourth amongst teams in the Mountain Region.
They finished the season with a record of 11-7 overall and 4-4 in the league, which helped them earn All-Mountain West Conference honors. Their victories all came at the number one position.
The Cowgirls wrapped up the season with a program best 14-8 overall record and a 5-3 mark in the MWC to finish third in the league. The 14 wins and five conference victories were the most ever in school history, plus the third place finish was the highest a Wyoming team has ever placed in league play. They defeated three conference foes for the first time in school history with wins over BYU, New Mexico and San Diego State, and narrowly lost to eventual conference champion TCU, 4-3.
