Morozova to Play for UW

September 16, 1998

University of Wyoming head women's tennis coach Kilmeny Waterman has announced the signing of Natalie Morozova to a national letter of intent to attend UW in 1998-99. Morozova, of Laramie, Wyo., is currently practicing with the Cowgirls and will participate in her first collegiate tennis match this weekend at the BYU Invitational in Provo, Utah.

Natalie, who is 16 years old and graduated high school in May of this year, was born in Moscow, Russia. She attended Laramie High School and was a two-time Wyoming state singles champion for the Plainsmen in 1996 and 1997. Morozova was also a two-time All-Conference and All-State selection during those years, and has held a ranking of 96th nationally in the 16 and under age group. She helped lead Laramie H.S. to a conference championship in 1996 and was team captain in 1997. Natalie also lettered in swimming at L.H.S

An incredibly good student, Morozova graduated high school early, was a National Merit Commended Student in 1997, was a member of the National Honor Society and was listed in "Who's Who Among America's H.S. Students."

"Natalie was a wonderful suprise," said Waterman. "We didn't know if she was coming and when she made her decision to come to Wyoming we were delighted. She's never been able to play day-in and day-out since she's from Wyoming, so I'm really excited to see how she'll develop now. She is very talented and I think she'll really go far in the game.

"Natalie works very hard and she will play high in our lineup as a freshman. She's really going to make everyone on the team push themselves because of her work ethic. She is a very mature 16-year old. I don't think I've ever seen anyone so driven in all aspects of her life.

"It's really nice for our program to get a player of this caliber. I think that if we can continue to recruit a player such as Natalie every year, we will be able to develop our program the way I would like."

Morozova was also recruited by Dartmouth College. Her parents are Igor and Elena Morozova and Natalie is their only child.
