Sixth year head coach Pam Wildt and the Wyoming tennis team will play their second fall tournament of the 2004 season this weekend as they host the Wyoming Cowgirl Invitational, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 24-25, in Laramie.
They will begin the tournament on Friday morning starting at 8:00 a.m. at the UW Tennis Complex, and it will run through Saturday, Sept. 25. Matches on Saturday will also begin at 8:00 a.m. The teams competing in the tournament will be the Air Force Academy, Montana State, UTEP and Wyoming.
The Cowgirls welcome back four starters and five letterwinners, along with the addition of three newcomers to the 2004-05 squad. Head coach Pam Wildt enters her sixth season with the team after leading the team to a 10-12 overall record, and 1-6 mark in the Mountain West Conference. Junior Patricia Chien is the top returning Cowgirl as she finished her sophomore campaign with a mark of 16-17 in singles play and 17-15 in doubles play.
Air Force enters the year with six returning letterwinners, including Kat Bushey who finished the 2003-04 campaign with an overall record of 15-21. The Falcons finished last season with a record of 13-14 overall and 1-6 in the MWC. Air Force is coached by Kim Gidley who is in her seventh season with the program.
Montana State will also make the trip to Laramie. The Bobcats come in with a lot of experience as they return five starters and eight letterwinners, along with welcoming three newcomers. MSU finished last season 8-16 overall. They are coached by Denise Albrecht, who is in her fifth season with the program.
The final participant in this year's tournament is the UTEP Miners. They welcome back three starters and five letterwinners to a team that finished 10-12 overall and 1-3 in the WAC. UTEP is coached by Jamie Campbell who is in her second season with the program, and her seventh as a head coach.
The matches will be played at the UW Tennis Complex and admission will be free.
