LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The Cowgirl tennis team will travel to Colorado Springs to take part in the Air Force Fall Invitational, beginning Friday. The teams participating in the tournament are Air Force, Arkansas State, Colorado State, Marquette, Miami (Ohio), Northern Colorado and Utah State.
Wyoming had a solid showing in its first weekend of play at the BYU Fall Invitational in Provo. Senior Christa Gecheva and sophomore Dorottya Jonas advanced to the semifinals of the singles back draw as the Cowgirl tennis team completed the second day of the BYU Invitational.
On the final day of competition, Jonas came up short in the finals of the singles back draw. Jonas reached the finals after a three-set win, 6-2, 3-6, 10-8 victory over Katie Fitt of BYU. Unfortunately, she would fall 6-3, 6-4 against Savannah Ware in the last match of the day. Ware reached the finals after defeating senior Christa Gecheva, 6-2, 6-4 earlier in the day.
Wyoming will compete in two more tournaments following this weekend. The Cowgirls will be at the ITA Mountain Regional tournament on Oct. 15-19, in Albuquerque, N.M., and the SMU Invite on Nov. 7-9, in Dallas, Texas.
