LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The University of Wyoming Athletics Department recently hosted the Wyoming Junior Championships, Friday-Sunday, Dec. 2-4, at the UW Tennis Facility in Laramie. During this upcoming weekend, they will hold the Adult Winter Championships beginning on Friday, Dec. 9.
"It was an exciting opportunity to host the Wyoming Junior Championships at the new University of Wyoming Indoor Tennis Complex," said tournament director Dean Clower. "The USTA sanctioned tournament provided juniors from the surrounding areas an opportunity to earn ranking points to qualify for sectional and national events. With the opening of the new University of Wyoming Indoor Tennis Complex, UW has plans to attract many more junior and adult tournaments to continue growing tennis throughout the State and the Region."
The three day tournament welcomed approximately 45 participants ranging from ages 14-18 from all over Colorado as well a wide reaching number from Wyoming including Jackson, Cody, Casper, Sheridan, Torrington, Cheyenne and Laramie. The events included boys and girls singles play, boys and girls doubles and mixed doubles.
The tournament was a sanctioned event which means all results were put into the USTA (United States Tennis Association) database and will be used for ranking purposes as well qualifying for sectional and national tournaments.
The Adult Winter Championships will begin Friday evening at 6:00 p.m., while Saturday will start at 8:00 a.m. and the finals at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday. It is open to anyone with levels from 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5 and Open. There will be separate draws of men's and women's doubles, mixed doubles and singles. Each participant may play in all three divisions.
