Cowgirl Volleyball Opens Up Spring Play

April 1, 2003

Laramie, Wyo. - The Wyoming Cowgirl Volleyball Team fared extremely well over the weekend as they participated in their first tournament of the spring down in Greeley, Colo.

The Cowgirls went 4-1 against their competition. In a modified three game format, they defeated Adams State, Chadron State, Regis University and Western State, but fell short in three to Northern Colorado. Overall, head volleyball coach Jim Barnes was extremely pleased.

"The new defense we are implementing is continuing to improve," said head coach Jim Barnes. "Offensively we were up and down. The outside hitters struggled but still gained some valuable playing time. Our middle blockers, setters and opposite positions continue to improve and showed more aggressiveness throughout the tournament."

The team will continue their spring practices over the next couple of weeks with tournaments at the University of Colorado, on April 5, Colorado State, on April 12 and then will host their own spring tournament on April 26.
