Wyoming Cowgirl Volleyball Earns Home Win Over Pioneers

Laramie, Wyo. (Sept. 3, 2002) -- In their first and only home game inSeptember, the Wyoming Cowgirl Volleyball Team (4-0 overall) improvedtheir record to a perfect 4-0 with a three game victory over the DenverPioneers (0-1 overall). The Cowgirls swept the match by the scores of30-27, 30-19, 30-24. This is the first time since the 1981 season that aCowgirl team has opened up the season, 4-0.

Sophomore outside hitter Jill Roslund led the way for Wyoming with 12kills, one block solo, two block assists and a .611 (12-1-18) hittingpercentage. As a team, they hit .253 (47-23-95) for the match, alongwith recording 38 assists and 30 digs.

Denver was led by Mary England, who finished the night with nine killsand a team high .444 (9-1-18) hitting percentage. The Pioneers struggledhitting only .141 (34-20-99) for the match.

"It was really nice to play a home match", said head coach Jim Barnes."This was the only chance in September, but it was a good match. It wasa great crowd tonight, and they really seemed to love their volleyball.We didn't come out and execute like we wanted, but the kids battledthrough and started getting it goin".

"We were a little out of sync in the first game, but I told the kidsto keep battling and we'll catch them and that's exactly what they did.They really dug in, kept fighting and it wasn't always pretty, but wefinally caught up to them and took over the rest of the match fromthere".

The Cowgirls will now hit the road for the next several weekends, andwon't return home until Friday, Oct. 4, when they will take on the SanDiego State Aztecs. They will head to this week to Ft. Collins, Colo.,where they will face Long Beach State, on Friday night at 7:00 p.m., andthen open conference play against the Colorado State Rams, on Saturdaynight, at 5:00 p.m.
