UW Volleyball Team Goes 1-2 During Wyoming Invitational

The Cowgirls went 1-2 over the weekend as they hosted the Wyoming Invitational.

In the first match of the tournament the Cowgirls took on the Illinois State Redbirds. Wyoming got off to a shakey start as they lost 1-3. They were led by junior middle blocker Jessica Zehr, who had 12 kills and 17 digs in the match.

In their second match of the weekend, the Cowgirls defeated the Sacramento State Hornets, 3-0. In game one, the scoring went back and forth, after tying the score at ten. The Cowgirls would go on a 5-0 run to win 15-10. Wyoming dominated game two jumping out to a 9-2 lead. Sacramento State fought back scoring four unanswered, but it wasn't enough as the Cowgirls took the game 15-9. Game three was also back and forth, but the Cowgirls held on to win 15-11. Wyoming was led by senior outside hitter Jami Laya, who ended up with 13 kills, 18 digs and hit .480.

In the final match of the weekend the Cowgirls were defeated by the Pepperdine Waves, 1-3. They were led by sophomore middle blocker Melody Friehuaf, who had 12 kills, seven block assists and one block solo.
