Cowgirl Volleyball Evens Season Record At 4-4

The Wyoming Cowgirl Volleyball Teamevened up their record today with victories over Austin Peay andPortland to finish out the Panther Invitational on Saturday inMilwaukee.

Wyoming defeated Austin Peay 3-0 (15-13, 15-10, 15-9) in the firstmatch of the day. The Cowgirls were led by Jamie Burke, who finishedwith 15 kills and nine digs. Michele Rauter also added 11 kills and 17digs for the match. They finished the match hitting .264 and a seasonhigh 15 total team blocks.

In the second match of the day, the Cowgirls notched a 3-1 (15-4,15-10, 9-15, 15-12) victory against the Portland Pilots. Wyoming was ledby senior Melody Friehauf, who finished the match with 13 kills, fourservice aces and five block assists. Jamie Burke also had a nice matchwith 10 kills, two service aces and 13 digs. As a team the Cowgirls hit.219 with 49 kills and 12 total team blocks.

"I'm certainly pleased to have two victories under our belt, and to begoing home .500," said head coach Susan Judge. "I think Melody Friehaufhad a very nice day offensively, and really helped us pick up ourblocking with her effort."

"I was pleased with the way we came back in the second match of theday, and play competitive volleyball and take control of the match.Overall, we played more aggressively over the weekend, which wassomething we needed to accomplish in this tournament."

Wyoming is now 4-4 overall heading into next week's competition. Theywill host Utah State, Loyola Chicago and the Cowgirl Classic.
