Cowgirls Fall To #24 Irish

LARAMIE, Wyo. - WYOMING at Notre Dame - Notre Dame 3-0 - Box Score

The Wyoming Cowgirl VolleyballTeam opened up the Golden Dome Invitational with a three game loss tothe 24th ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish, on Friday night in SouthBend, Ind.

The Cowgirls would score the opening point of the game, but failed toscore another falling 15-1 in game one to the Irish. The second gamedidn't fair much better for Wyoming, as they continued to struggle andNotre Dame stayed hot. The would lose the game 15-5 to go down 0-2 inthe match. A fight was put up in the third game, as the Cowgirls managedto score eight points, but the opponent was too tough. The Irish wouldtake the game 15-8 and the match 3-0.

Notre Dame was led by Malinda Goralski, who finished the night with tenkills, six block assists and hit .833. The Irish dominated the Cowgirlswith a .400 hitting percentage and ten team blocks.

Seniors Jamie Burke and Barbie Bragg seemed to be the bright spot forWyoming. Burke finished the night with nine kills and four digs, whileBragg added four kills and a .333 hitting percentage. The Cowgirls wereonce again plagued by eight service errors and a poor hittingpercentage.

"This is just another case of us coming out timid," said head coachSusan Judge. "The more we do that, the harder it will be to beat aquality opponent. We didn't really see what Notre Dame was capable of,because we didn't challenge them. It's also disappointing to see uscontinually make the same type of mistakes. Hopefully tomorrow night wecan comeout and play with a lot more aggressiveness and consistency."

The Cowgirls are now 6-9 overall and 0-1 on the conference season. Theywill wrap up the weekend tomorrow night against Loyola-Marymount at 4:00p.m., M.T.
