Cowgirl Volleyball Defeats Pirates

Ithaca, N.Y. - In their second match of the Big RedInvitational, the Wyoming Cowgirl Volleyball Team (13-2 overall)defeated the Seton Hall Pirates (8-9 overall) in four games (30-25,30-21, 28-30, 30-26), Saturday morning in Ithaca, N.Y. The victory putsthe Cowgirls win streak at eight matches.

In the early part of game one, the two teams exchanged points neitherone really taking any control. After taking an 18-16 lead, Seton Hallseem to gain some momentum, but the Cowgirls came back with a couplepoints of their own to tie it up. With the score tied up at 24, Wyomingwould score the next five of seven points to close out the game 30-25.

The Cowgirls opened up the second game by taking an 8-2 lead, andmaintained a five to six point margin. After the Pirates closed the gapto 14-10, the Cowgirls went on an 11-5 run to go ahead by ten points.They took the game 30-21 and a 2-0 lead in the match.

The two teams exchanged points to begin the third game with no onetaking a lead larger than two or three points. All tied up at 17 all,the Cowgirls seemed to gain a little momentum by taking a small lead,but Seton Hall continued to hang around. It would come down to the lastcouple of points as Seton Hall came out on top 30-28.

Momentum seem to shift the Pirates way as they began the fourth gamewith a 7-4 lead, but the Cowgirls came back to tie it up . Seton Hall continued to get leads,while Wyoming continued to battle back from the deficits. The score wentback and forth until the Cowgirls took a one point lead and scored thenext four of five points to take the game 30-26 and the match 3-1.

Junior Michele Rauter recorded another double-double with 18 kills and16 digs, along with three block solos and four block assists. Setter AmyDoman finished with a career high seven kills, plus 48 assists and sevendigs for the match. As a team, Wyoming hit .319 (62-19-135) and had 13total team blocks.

The Cowgirls will wrap up the tournament tonight against the hostCornell Big Red at 5:00 p.m. MT.
