Cowgirl Volleyball Falls to Familiar Foes

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The Cowgirls went 0-2 over the weekend as they faced Utah and BYU in non-conference matches.

In the first match of the weekend the Cowgirls faced the Utah Utes. Game one was close throughout with no team really taking control. With the score tied at seven all, Utah would score four unanswered to make it 11-7. Wyoming would try to make a comeback getting as close as 13-11, but Utah would win the game, 15-11. Utah jumped out to take the early lead in game two and never let go of it. The Cowgirls would make it close going on a 7-2 run, making the score 14-10, but it wasn't enough as the Utes would take game two, 15-10. Wyoming came out fired up in game three, as they jumped out to an early 5-0 lead. They would continue to build on that lead getting the score up to 11-5. Utah would make a run as they got as close as 11-9, but the Cowgirls would run off four unanswered to win 15-9. Wyoming fell behind early and it looked like an easy fourth game for Utah. The Cowgirls fought back down 11-1 they would score ten unanswered to tie the score at eleven all. Unfortunately, Wyoming didn't have enough to finish dropping the game 15-11 and the match 3-1.

In the second match of the weekend the Cowgirls faced the nationally ranked BYU Cougars. The Cowgirls scored only four points in game one. The Cougars hit .245 and added 21 kills, compared to the Cowgirls .159 hitting percentage and ten kills. Game two started out promising as Wyoming jumped out to a 5-0 lead. Unfortunately, the top ranked Cougars had an answer, going on an 11-0 run and would win the game 15-7. The Cowgirls tried to keep it close in game three, but BYU was too dominate. The Cougars would take the game 15-6, and the match 3-0.
