LARAMIE, Wyo. -

*BYU def. Wyoming 3-0 - Box Score

Despite a good effort, the WyomingCowgirl Volleyball Team (6-5, 1-2) fell in three games to the 14thranked Brigham Young Cougars (10-1, 4-0), on Friday night, in Laramie.

Game one saw the Cowgirls fall behind early, 7-2. But they would runoff six straight points to take the lead, 8-7. The game stayed closethroughout until BYU took the lead 19-18, went on a 11-6 run and tookthe game 30-24.

The second game almost mirrored the first with BYU taking the earlyadvantage. The Cowgirls would tie the score three times during the game, but couldn't finish it out going down 30-27.

Wyoming wouldn't give up, hanging tough in the third game, but itwouldn't be enough as the Cougars took the game 30-24 and the match 3-0.

Brigham Young was led by junior outside hitter Sunny Mahe, who finishedwith a team leading 15 kills and a .542 hitting percentage (15-2-24).The Cougars hit .211 on the night, along with 12 total team blocks.

Rachel Lau and Michele Rauter paced the way for the Cowgirls with 10kills each. Unfortunately, Wyoming struggled hitting only .053(37-31-114) on the evening.

"Tonight was really a matter of us sleeping on defense," said headcoach Susan Steadman. "Against a team like BYU that can attack the ballso well, you can't do that. We had a tendency to relax, some blockingassignments were missed and it was a matter of a few points that wemissed in order to take a game. We did some good things, but ourblocking wasn't were it needed to be. Overall, I was proud of the waythey competed and it was a good effort. We just need to continuebuilding on the intensity we are bringing to the court and our outcomemay be different against these ranked teams."

The Cowgirls are now 6-5 overall and 1-2 in the Mountain WestConference. They will host Utah tomorrow night, at 7:00 p.m., in theMPG.
