The Wyoming Cowgirl volleyball team (5-10 overall, 0-6 in the MWC) fell inthree games (28-30, 27-30, 22-30) to the TCU Horned Frogs (12-7 overall, 2-3 in the MWC) on Tuesday night in Ft.Worth, Texas.
Two Cowgirls finished the night in double-digits, including freshman Kelsey Loop. She recorded 12 kills and fivedigs. She was followed by Lauren Scott who had ten kills and three block assists. As a team, Wyoming hit .256 (45-15-117) and recorded five total team blocks.
TCU opened up game one by taking the early 8-5 advantage, which was answered by three straight points bythe Cowgirls to even it up at eight all. The two teams traded points back and forth until the Horned Frogs went on a6-2 scoring run to go up by four, 15-11, but Wyoming continued to hang tough and scored the next seven of ten to tiethe score at 18. TCU quickly went back up by three after another 6-3 run, 24-21, while the Cowgirls again answeredto even it up again at 24 all. It was a game of runs as the Horned Frogs would take the lead and the Cowgirls wouldhave to make a come back. Down 27-25, they would score three straight to take their first lead of the game, 28-27,unfortunately TCU ran off three points of their own to win the game, 30-28.
After the Horned Frogs scored the first point of game two, the Cowgirls answered with a 10-4 scoring run to takea five point lead. TCU would rally back by scoring the next seven of nine to tie the score at 12 all. The two teamswould go back and forth taking the lead until a small run by TCU put them up three, 19-16. They would maintain thelead until the Cowgirls tied it up at 24. Unfortunately for the Wyoming, the Horned Frogs quickly scored four straightto regain a 28-24 advantage. They tried to climb their way back in to it, but in the end TCU would take the game30-27 and a 2-0 lead in the game.
In the third game, the Cowgirls jumped out to an early 7-2 lead, which was quickly answered by a 7-2 scoringrun by TCU to tie the score at nine. The lead changed hands several times until the Horned Frogs went on another5-0 run to go up 21-15. Things didn't fair much better for Wyoming as they were out scored 9-7 the remainder of theway. TCU would win the game, 30-22, and the match 3-0.
The Cowgirls will host two non-conference matches this weekend in Laramie. They welcom the Utah ValleyState Wolverines, on Friday night, beginning at 7:00 p.m. and the Texas Red Raiders, on Sunday afternoon, at 3:00p.m.
