LARAMIE, Wyo. - at Air Force 1-3 L
On Wednesday night, the Wyoming Cowgirl Volleyball Team (15-4 overall, 1-3 MWC) fell 24-30, 24-30, 30-27, 21-30 to the Air Force Academy Falcons (8-10, 2-2 MWC).
In game one, no team really took a lead larger than one or two points in the early going. With the score tied up at 19, the Falcons would go on a 6-0 run to go up a 25-20 margin, and closed out the game 30-24. UW struggled hitting only .105 (14-10-38) compared to .290 (16-7-31) by the Falcons.
Air Force opened the second game scoring the first six points unanswered. Wyoming battled back going on a 10-5 run to tie the score up at 11 all, but the Falcons regained the lead back shortly after. It would be an advantage they never relinquished, outscoring the Cowgirls 11-6 to take the game 30-24 and a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Cowgirls fell behind to start game three by the score of 8-4, but came back to outscore the Falcons to take an 11-9 lead. Despite Air Force evening up the score, Wyoming continued to fight and took their largest lead of the game at four points, 17-13. The Falcons battled back to tie it up at 18-18 and the fight was on. UW scored the final three points to win the third game, 30-27.
The Falcons jumped out to the 13-8 lead to begin the fourth game, and maintain a three to four point advantage. With Air Force up 21-14, it would just be too much for the Cowgirls to overcome. Wyoming would lose the game 30-21 and the match 3-1.
Wyoming was led by junior outside hitter Michele Rauter, who finished with a team high 16 kills and 13 digs. Freshman Lindsey Roebken had an excellent match with a career high ten kills and four blocks assists.
The Cowgirls will close out their weekend with a match-up against the New Mexico Lobos, on Friday night at 7:00 p.m., in Albuquerque.
