LARAMIE, Wyo. -
The Wyoming Cowgirl Volleyball Team (17-4 overall, 3-3 in the MWC) struggled in a three set loss (24-26, 21-25, 22-25) against the New Mexico Lobos (11-7 overall, 3-2 in the MWC), on Thursday night in Laramie.
"I was pleased with the way our young kids came in and contributed," said head coach Carrie Yerty. "I thought we blocked well tonight, and had chances to win the first set. We just struggled with executing down the stretch. We need to get back in the gym and find a way to get us going in the right direction. It's always disappointing to lose at home, but we have to come back and get ready for Saturday against TCU."
Sophomore Jodi Purdy recorded her eighth double-double of the season with a team high 11 kills and 14 digs, plus four total blocks. She was followed by Lauren Whitney with six kills and two others with five kills each. Reese Roehrkasse led the way with a team high five total blocks. Wyoming got the lead back to three, 12-9, but the Lobos scored three of four to make it 13-12. The Cowgirls went on a 4-1 run to regain a 17-13 advantage. Wyoming couldn't shake the Lobos as they made it 20-19 with a 6-3 run of their own. Wyoming would push the lead back to three, 22-19. Unfortunately, UNM would tie it up at 22 and held off a set point to score the final three points to win the first set 26-24.
