Wyoming Volleyball Falls in Three to TCU

The Wyoming Cowgirl Volleyball Team (10-14 overall, 1-9 in the Mountain West Conference) closed out their weekend with a three-set loss (20-25, 13-25, 15-25) against the TCU Horned Frogs (19-5 overall, 8-2 in the MWC), on Saturday afternoon, in Ft. Worth.

Two Cowgirls, Jodi Purdy and Lauren Whitney, each finished with a match high seven kills while Dani Bedore added six. Senior Jessica Kagarise led the way with 11 digs. Wyoming hit .143 (26-12-98) and out blocked the Frogs 8-4.

TCU was led by Kourtney Edwards with 11 kills and three blocks. She was followed by Lauren Otto with nine kills and seven digs. The Frogs hit .241 (41-14-112) for the match.

The two teams traded points back and forth in the early beginning of the first set until the Cowgirls took a slight 7-5 lead. TCU answered with a 4-1 run to go up one, 9-8, which they would extend to three, 13-10. Wyoming would score three of the next four points to pull within one, but the Horned Frogs ran off six of seven to extend the lead to six, 20-14. The Cowgirls would hold off two set points unfortunately they would come up short 25-20 in the set.

TCU scored the first three points of the second set and would score the next four of nine to make it 7-5. Wyoming responded with a small run to even it up at eight all. The Horned Frogs answered right back with an 8-1 run to extend their lead to seven 16-9. After the Cowgirls scored their tenth point, TCU scored the final 9 of 12 to win the set 25-13 to take a 2-0 lead in the match.

In the third set, the Cowgirls took an early 4-2 lead. TCU would tie it up at five and then Wyoming scored the next three points to go back up 8-5. The Frogs came right back with a 6-1 run to take a two point advantage, 11-9. It would be a lead that they would never relinquish as they out scored the Cowgirls 14-6 down the stretch to win the set 25-15 and the match, 3-0.

The Cowgirls will be back on the road next week as they face the Colorado State Rams, on Friday, Oct. 30, in Ft. Collins. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
