BOISE, Idaho -
The University of Wyoming Cowgirl volleyball team fell in four sets to Boise State on Saturday afternoon. The Cowgirls (16-6, 6-4 MW) continuously battled but ultimately dropped the match 3-1 (19-25, 25-23, 27-25, 15-25).
Courtney Chacon recorded her 10th match of the season with at least 20 assists and fifth with 25 or more. She finished the afternoon two shy of her season-high with 26, and also had seven digs for the Cowgirls. Kayla Slofkiss once again led the team with 12 kills, in addition to her five digs against the Broncos (15-7, 7-5 MW). It was her 14th match with double-digit kills. Allison Waldvogel had a match-high 25 digs for UW. It marked the sixth match this year she has had at least 20 digs.
Laura Beach slammed home nine kills for the match, while freshman Reed Copeland recorded a team-high five blocks and also chipped in six kills for UW. Fellow freshmen Cori Aafedt dished out 15 assists for the Cowgirls, as Mattison DeGarmo tied her career-high with seven kills against the Broncos.
Sophomore Lily Austin scooped up six digs for UW, as senior Kayla Henderson recorded six kills, and Bridget Shanahan added five. Shanahan is inching towards 1,000 kills for her career. She is currently 14th all-time in UW history with 975 for her career. Shanahan and Henderson each had four blocks as well against Boise State.
Beach had four of her kills in the first set, as Slofkiss led the team with five in the second. Waldvogel had nine digs in both the second and third frames, while Chacon had five in set three. Henderson had a team-leading three kills in the fourth and final frame.
Wyoming will return home on Thursday to face Nevada at 6:30 p.m. MT. It will look to extend an eight-match winning streak in the UniWyo Sports Complex. The Cowgirls will also welcome San Diego State on Saturday, with the match set to begin at 1 p.m.
