Cowgirl Volleyball Falls In Three To UNLV

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

The Wyoming Cowgirl Volleyball Team(18-8 overall, 3-7 MWC) was swept in three games by the UNLV Rebels,(8-16 overall, 4-7 MWC) on Saturday night in Las Vegas.

UNLV came out on fire to start the match opening up with an 8-1 lead,which extended to 18-10. That would be as close as the Cowgirls would beduring the game, as the Rebels took the game 30-16.

After falling behind early in the second game, Wyoming tied it up atfive all, but just as quickly the Rebels scored seven unanswered to goup 12-5. The Cowgirls answered back with a 13-7 run to close within onepoint, eventually tying it up at 23. Despite leading by a couple ofpoints at one time, the Cowgirls couldn't hold on to the lead and fell30-28.

The Rebels took control from the beginning of the third game with a 7-3lead, which grew to 18-8 after a 10-2 run. The Cowgirls pulled withinsix points after a 8-3 run, but it wasn't enough as UNLV won the game,30-22 and the match 3-0.

The Cowgirls were led by Michele Rauter, who finished with a team high11 kills and ten digs. As a team, they struggled only hitting .102(39-28-108) on the night.

Wyoming will host their final home matches of the season next weekend.They will face the Air Force Academy Falcons, on Friday night, at 7:00p.m., and then the New Mexico Lobos, on Saturday night, at 7:00 p.m.Both matches will be played in the MPG.
