Volleyball Defeats Tulsa, Loses to Rice and Houston

The Cowgirls went 1-2 over the weekend, as they defeated the Tulsa Golden Hurricane, and then were defeated by the Rice Owls and the Houston Cougars.

The Cowgirls faced the Tulsa Golden Hurricane in match one. Game one was evenly matched throughout, with Wyoming eventually taking the lead. Tulsa would keep it close tieing the score at nine, but the Cowgirls would score the next six to win the game 15-9. Game two started off much the same way, but Tulsa would take the 10-7 lead. But the Cowgirls would go on a 7-0 run to take a 14-10 lead. Tulsa would hold Wyoming off on several game points, and go on a 7-1 run of their own to take the game 17-15. The Cowgirls would come out in game three and take the early 5-0 lead, but Tulsa fought back to tie the game at seven all. The Golden Hurricane would take the lead and win the game 15-10. Wyoming would dominate game four taking the 9-4 lead. The Cowgirls would win game four 15-5. Game five was led by the Cowgirls early, but Tulsa would tie the score at eight. The lead would change hands several times with Wyoming eventually taking a 12-11 lead. They would end up winning the game 15-12 and the match 3-2.

Match two featured the Rice Owls against the Cowgirls. Game one started off very even with the scoring going back and forth. But Wyoming would eventually take a 10-5 lead, their largest of the game. Rice would make a comeback tieing the score at ten. The Cowgirls scored the next two points taking the 12-10 lead. Unfortunately, the Owls had just enough left to take the lead and the game 15-13. Wyoming would fall behind early, as the Owls would take a 6-1 lead, off of four Kelly Smith service aces. The Cowgirls would try to comeback getting as close as 9-7, but Rice was too much as they took game two 15-10. Rice would take command of the match as they would take a 9-0 lead in game three. Wyoming would try to attempt a comeback, but it wouldn't be enough as the Owls would take the game 15-8 and the match 3-0.

In their final match of the weekend, the Cowgirls would face the Houston Cougars. Wyoming would start the match off slowly as Houston would take a 7-0 advantage. With the Cougars leading 14-7, Wyoming wouldgo on a 4-0 run to cut the lead to 14-11. But Houston would take game one 15-11. Game two stayed very close throughout, with the Cowgirls even taking a 7-5 lead. The Cougars would go on a 4-0 run to regain the lead 9-7. Wyoming would tie the score at nine, but Houston would score the next four to take a 13-9 advantage. Wyoming would get as close as 14-13, but the Cougars would take the game 15-13. Wyoming once again fell behind 6-0, but would go on a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 6-5. Houston would once again extend their lead to 11-7, but Wyoming would have another comeback by going on an 8-0 run to take the game 15-11. Game four was close throughout with no team really taking control. With the score tied at 13-13, Wyoming would score the final two points to force a game five, 15-13. Game five started off very similar to game four. Houston would take the lead 5-3 and never relinquish it. Houston would take the game 15-11 and the match 3-2.
