FORT WORTH, Texas -
The Wyoming Cowgirl Volleyball team (4-16 overall, 3-8 in the Mountain West Conference) fell in three sets (16-25, 17-25, 18-25) to the TCU Frogs (18-8 overall, 7-6 in the MWC) on Thursday night in Ft. Worth.
"We really struggled passing the ball tonight, which affected our offense," said UW head coach Carrie Yerty. "We also seemed to give up a lot of free balls, which made it tough on the defense. Hopefully, we can move on from this and have a better showing against New Mexico."
Wyoming was led by sophomore Lauren Whitney who recorded 12 kills and two digs, while hitting .385 (12-2-26) for the match. Dani Bedore followed with eight kills and seven digs, while senior Carissa Lee finished with 16 digs. The Cowgirls hit .149 (29-14-101) for the match and recorded four total team blocks.
The Frogs had two players finish in double-figures led by Kourtney Edwards. She recorded 13 kills, while hitting .478 (13-2-23). Christy Hudson added 10 kills and two total blocks while hitting .714 (10-0-14). Katelyn Blackwood recorded 15 digs. TCU hit .351 (48-9-111) for the match.
Wyoming started off the match on a solid note as they took an early 5-2 lead. The Frogs responded with a 5-3 run to pull within one, 8-7, and then scored the next four of six points to take their first lead of the match 11-10. They would extend that lead to seven, 17-10, with six straight points. The Cowgirls finally ended their scoring drought with three unanswered to pull within four, 17-13. Unfortunately that would be as close as they would get, as TCU ran off 8 of the last 11 points to win the first set, 25-16.
In the second set, the Frogs jumped out to a 7-3 lead. Wyoming answered back with an 8-3 run to take a one point lead, 11-10. TCU scored the next seven of nine to go back up by four, 17-13, which they extended to seven with another four straight points. They would hold the Cowgirls to just two more points as the Frogs won the second set, 25-17, to take a 2-0 lead in the match.
The two teams played evenly through the first several points until the Cowgirls went on a 5-1 run to go up by four, 8-4. TCU battled back by scoring five of the next seven to pull within one, 10-9. They would eventually tie it up at 11 and go ahead by one, 13-12. Wyoming scored the next point to tie it up at 13, but the Frogs ran off for straight to take a 17-13 advantage. The Cowgirls battled back to within one, 17-16, unfortunately TCU had other ideas. They would close out the set on an 8-2 run to win 25-18 and the match 3-0.
Wyoming will wrap up their road trip against the New Mexico Lobos, on Saturday, November 8, in Albuquerque. The match is set to start at 1 p.m.
