Laramie, Wyo. -- The Wyoming Cowgirl Volleyball Team(8-14 overall, 3-10 in the MWC) lost in five games, 24-30, 30-23, 27-30,30-19, 14-16, to the New Mexico Lobos (5-18 overall, 3-10 in the MWC) onFriday night in Laramie.
New Mexico was led by senior Malena Thompson, who finished the nightwith a team high 22 kills, along with 14 digs. Setter Kelly Griffin wasthe leader in digs with 21. As a team, the Lobos hit .145 (65-38-186),while recording ten total team blocks.
Freshman Jill Roslund was the bright spot for the Cowgirls, as sherecorded a career high 18 kills, along with hitting a team high .361(18-5-36). Cowgirl senior Rachel Lau also continues to put up goodnumbers with 16 kills, one block solo and three block assists. TheCowgirls hit .168 (66-34-191), while recording 12 total team blocks.
"We need to have the ability to handle pressure," said head coach SusanSteadman. "The girls all knew what was at stake, with potentially tieingfor fifth place going into the tournament, and we really played not tolose. We haven't made excuses all year and we're not going to tonight.Unfortunately, we didn't get the job done and didn't make the plays whenwe needed to. It originated from the beginning of the match when we cameout tense and tight and that really affected how our offense went."
Wyoming will close out the regular season against Air Force, tomorrownight, in the MPG at 7:00 p.m.
