Boise, Idaho - The Wyoming volleyball team fell to .500 (14-14 overall, 3-9 in the MWC) on the season after a four game loss (24-30, 30-25, 29-31, 16-30) to the Boise State Broncos (6-21 overall) on Sunday afternoon in Boise.
Boise State jumped out quickly in the first game by taking a 6-4 lead, but the Cowgirls responded with a 5-3 run to even things up at nine all. The two teams played pretty even until the Cowgirls took a 19-17 lead. Unfortunately, BSU answered by scoring the next five of six points to regain the lead, 22-20, which they would never relinquish as they out scored Wyoming 8-4 to win the game 30-24.
It was the Cowgirls who started off strong in the second game with a 13-6 advantage. They continued to build on that lead as the Broncos struggled offensively to go up eight points, 17-9. The momentum seemed to shift towards Boise State as they closed the margin to 19-17, but UW kept their composure and won the game 30-25.
The Broncos dominated the beginning of game three by taking an 11-3 lead, but Wyoming battled back to pull within four, 14-10. Unfortunately, Boise State kept the Cowgirls just out of reach to even things up. With the score tied at 29 all, the Broncos scored the final to points to take the game 31-29 and a 2-1 lead in the match.
BSU wrapped up the match by dominating the fourth game from the beginning as the Cowgirls were never really in it. They'd take the game 30-16 and the match 3-1.
Wyoming was led by senior Leah Powers, who finished the night with ten kills, two block assists and a .471 (10-2-17) hitting percentage. As a team, the Cowgirls hit .200 (47-23-120), but were out blocked seven to five.
The Cowgirls will close out the conference regular season this weekend by hosting the New Mexico Lobos, on Friday night, and the Air Force Academy Falcons, on Saturday night. Both matches will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the MPG.
