Wyoming Volleyball Has Solid Outing At UNC Spring Tourney

April 8, 2013

The Wyoming Cowgirl Volleyball Team had a successful day as they participated in the Northern Colorado spring tournament on Saturday in Greeley.

"I'm pleased with our play overall," said head coach Carrie Yerty. "We saw some great performances throughout the day. Bridget Shanahan had a tremendous day blocking and was a strong attacker, while Nicole Walker provided solid passing and defense all day. We have a lot of room to continue to improve this spring and the team is eager to get back into the gym next week."

The Cowgirls finished first in Pool D play. They swept Northeast Junior College, Regis and Western State while earning a split against Nebraska Kearney. In the afternoon, they would fall in the semifinals of the playoff rounds to the Colorado State Rams, 25-13, 25-15.

On the weekend, Calli Miller finished with a team high 20 kills (2.0 kps) followed by Bridget Shanahan with 19 (1.9 kps). Shanahan also hit .424 (19-5-33) over the five matches. Reese Plante recorded 14 kills and hit a team high .462 (14-2-26) followed by Erin Kirby with 13 kills and a .458 (13-2-24) hitting percentage.

The Cowgirls will continue their spring workouts over the next several weeks and compete in two more tournaments. They are at the CSU Tournament on Saturday, April 13, before wrapping things up on Saturday, April 20, at the UNK Tournament.
