Cowgirl Volleyball Completes Spring Drills

April 27, 2005

LARAMIE, Wyo. -

Second year head coach Pat Stangle and the University of Wyoming Cowgirl volleyball team, with their final practices last week, wrapped up the spring season.

Stangle will welcome back three starters and seven letterwinners to a team that finished 13-14 overall and 6-8 in the Mountain West Conference a year ago. Leading that list will be Rachel Smith, who was the MWC Co-Freshman of the Year in 2005.

Wyoming played in two tournaments during their spring drills with trips to Boulder, Colo. and Seattle, Washington. They faced Penn State, while playing at the University of Colorado, and then had a two-day training session at the University of Washington.

"We made a lot of improvement over the spring, and our goal is to get better as a team everyday, "said Stangle. "In addition to our game play, we learned how to practice at a higher level and on a more consistent basis."

The Cowgirls will open the 2005 regular season on Thursday, Sept. 1 as they host the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic in Laramie.
