The Wyoming Cowgirl Volleyball Teamwrapped up their spring practice over the weekend, with four matches, inFt. Collins, Colo.
The Cowgirls went 1-1-2 against their competition, which included avictory over the Air Force Academy Falcons. In a modified two-gameformat, they defeated Air Force (30-21, 30-20), fell to host ColoradoState (27-30, 26-30) and split with Denver (28-30, 30-26) andNebraska-Kearney (27-30, 30-24). Despite not winning every match, headcoach Jim Barnes was quite pleased with the play of his team and thespring in general.
"I was really happy with the play of Leah Powers and felt that she hadher best tournament of the spring this past weekend" said Barnes. "We'vehad several players, like Amy Doman and Michele Rauter really step upand play well over the last couple of weeks, which is a good thing tosee. Overall, I think the transition has gone well and they're playingbetter as a team, and have a better idea of the intensity and level wewant them to play at. We are also at a point that I feel that we havelaid the groundwork for going into the fall."
The Cowgirls are scheduled to open up the 2002 Volleyball Season at theChippewa Classic, in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, on Friday August 30.
