Out on the road for the first time in 2011, they will travel to Iowa for the Drake University Invitational with matches against Drake, IPFW and UW-Milwaukee, Friday-Saturday, Sept. 2-3. That will be followed by the UniWyo Cowgirl Classic, Sept. 9-10, with Georgia State, Idaho State and Illinois State coming to Laramie.
Things get wrapped up Friday-Saturday, Sept. 16-17 at the College of Charleston Invitational. Wyoming will play UNC-Wilmington and North Florida, on Friday, Sept. 16, with matches against Texas A&M Corpus Christi and College of Charleston on the following day. They will also have an exhibition match on Tues., Sept. 6, against a Slovenian Touring Team and two non-conference matches against Northern Colorado, on Wed., Oct. 5, and Colorado Christian, on Tuesday, Nov. 1, mixed in with the conference schedule.
"We have put together a competitive schedule for this team," said head coach Carrie Yerty. "A goal in the early part of the season will be to earn as many victories as possible and utilize that in order to prepare us for MWC action. We are excited about the addition of Boise State and look to improve our place in the conference standings."
Mountain West Conference matches will be played primarily on Thursday's and Saturday's, with one Friday match. The Cowgirls will kick off their home MWC schedule on Thursday, Sept. 22, against the league newcomer Boise State, and Sept. 24, against the Air Force Academy Falcons. Both matches will be played in the UniWyo Sports Complex. Their first road matches will be on Thurs., Sept. 29, against San Diego State and, Sat., Oct. 1, against UNLV.
Head coach Carrie Yerty enters her fourth season with the Cowgirl Volleyball Program. She returns two starters and nine letterwinners, including 2010 All-MWC selection Jodi Purdy, from a team that went 22-10 overall and 7-9 in the Mountain West Conference a year ago.
