LARAMIE, Wyo. -
Second year head coach Carrie Yerty and the University of Wyoming Cowgirl volleyball team will hold their first practice of the 2009 preseason on Friday, August 7 beginning at 1:30 p.m., in the UniWyo Sports Complex.
Yerty welcomes back three starters and four letterwinners to this year's squad that finished 5-20 overall and 4-12 in the Mountain West Conference a year ago. The 2009 squad consists of one senior, four juniors, one redshirt freshman and eight true freshmen.
"I am extremely excited to start the 2009 Cowgirl Volleyball Preseason," said Yerty. "We have been counting down the days until our first official team practice and are eager to start preparing for what we believe to be an exciting year. I am so proud of this team and program. I know that together we will provide our fans and university with an exciting and competitive team of elite athletes who will push themselves both on the court and in the classroom."
The Cowgirls' first practice will be from 1:30-4:00 p.m. on Friday afternoon. Regular weekday practices during the preseason will rotate on a three, two or one per day schedule. All practices are open.
The Cowgirls will open up the 2009 volleyball season at home as they host the UniWyo Cowgirl Classic, August 28-29. That will be followed by another home tournament, Sept. 4-5, with Fresno State, Montana State and North Dakota coming for the UniWyo Cowgirl Invite.
Out on the road for the first time in 2009, they will travel to Arizona for the NAU Fiesta Bowl Classic with matches against The Citadel, Northern Arizona and Utah State. Things get wrapped up Sept. 18-19 at the Holly Young Invitational in Durham, N.H. They will play Arizona State, Harvard and the host school New Hampshire. Mountain West Conference play will begin Tuesday, September 22 as they take on the UNLV Rebels in Las Vegas.
