LARAMIE, Wyo. -
Third-year head coach Carrie Yerty and the University of Wyoming Cowgirl volleyball team will hold their first practice of the 2010 pre-season on Monday, August 9 beginning at 8:30 a.m., in the UniWyo Sports Complex.
Yerty welcomes back all six starters and eight letterwinners to this year's squad that finished 13-18 overall and 3-13 in the Mountain West Conference a year ago. The squad consists of four seniors, two juniors, four sophomores, three redshirt freshmen and three true freshmen.
"I am really excited to start the 2010 Cowgirl Volleyball Preseason," said Yerty. "We are returning a solid core of veterans and have added another great recruiting class. The transformation that this program and team has made in just two years is truly incredible. We will have experience and depth in every position and will be able to focus on team systems from the first day of training. Our volleyball IQ has improved tremendously and the team has been working out and training here on campus all summer long. We will be entering this preseason with confidence, poise, and a hunger to win."
The Cowgirls' first practice will be from 8:30-10:30 a.m. on Monday morning. Regular weekday practices during the pre-season will rotate on a three, two or one per day schedule. All practices are open.
Wyoming will open up the 2010 volleyball season at home as they host the UniWyo Wyoming Invite, August 27-28. They will welcome Central Arkansas, Murray State, Northern Arizona and Southern Utah. Out on the road for the first time in 2010, they will travel to Florida for the Stetson University Invitational with matches against Bethune Cookman, Florida Atlantic, Stetson and Wofford. That will be followed by another home tournament, Sept. 10-11, with Boise State, Northern Colorado, Portland and UT-Arlington coming for the UniWyo Cowgirl Classic. Things get wrapped up Sept. 17-18 at the Gonzaga Invitational in Spokane, Wash. They will play Idaho, Seattle and the host school Gonzaga. Mountain West Conference play will begin on the road for the Cowgirls Thursday, Sept. 23 as they take on the Utah Utes in Salt Lake City followed by the BYU Cougars, on Saturday, Sept. 25, in Provo.
