LARAMIE, Wyo. -
Fourth year head coach Pat Stangle and the University of Wyoming Cowgirl volleyball team will hold their first practice of the 2007 pre-season on Wednesday, Aug. 8 beginning at 9 a.m., in the UniWyo Sports Complex.
Stangle welcomes back four starters and eight letterwinners to this year's squad that finished 13-15 overall and 7-9 in the Mountain West Conference a year ago. This year's squad consists of four seniors, three juniors, one sophomore and five freshmen.
"We're highly anticipating the start of our season," said Stangle. "With four starters returning and a great group of incoming freshmen, we have a chance to improve our position in the conference and make a run in the post season. Barring injuries, I think we can realistically accomplish those goals."
The Cowgirls' first practice will begin on Wednesday morning from 9 a.m.-11:30 a.m. Regular weekday practices will mainly run Monday through Friday with one practice beginning at 9:00 a.m. and a second at 3:00 p.m., and 8:30 a.m. on Saturdays. All practices are open.
The Cowgirls will open up the 2007 volleyball season on the road, Friday and Saturday, Aug. 24-25, as they travel to the state of Utah to take on Utah Valley and Weber State. That will be followed by two tournaments on the road Aug. 31 - Sept. 1 at the UC Irvine Tournament in Irvine, Calif. and the Jayhawk Classic, Sept. 7-8, in Lawrence, Kan. Mountain West Conference play will kick off, Tuesday, Sept. 11, on the road against the Air Force Academy, while UW's first home matches won't be until Sept. 28-29 against BYU and Utah.
