Fifth year head coach Carrie Yerty and Wyoming Cowgirl volleyball team will open up with their first practice of the 2012 preseason on Wednesday, August 8 beginning at 9:00 a.m., in the UniWyo Sports Complex.

"I am really excited to get in the gym and to get the 2012 preseason started," said head coach Carrie Yerty. "We have an experienced group of players returning and have depth at every single position. Our team and staff have been preparing all year and anticipate a great season. The team is healthy, in great shape and fired up to bring our fans another exciting year of Wyoming Volleyball."

The Cowgirls' first practice will be from 9:00-11:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning. Regular weekday practices during the pre-season will rotate on a three, two or one per day schedule. All practices are open. For regular practice times or to set up interviews during the season, please contact Amy Dambro.

Yerty welcomes back all six starters and nine letterwinners to this year's squad that finished 21-11 overall and 9-5 in the Mountain West a year ago. Two of those returning players received 2011 All-Mountain West honors, Jodi Purdy and Erin Kirby. Purdy was selected for the second year in a row, while being named to the AVCA All-West Region and AVCA Honorable Mention All-America Teams. Kirby was a first time honoree after a solid redshirt freshman campaign. In all, the squad consists of three seniors, four juniors, two sophomores, two redshirt freshmen and three true freshmen.

Wyoming will open up non-conference action with their first two weekends at home. They will host the UniWyo Wyoming Invite with matches against Presbyterian College and San Francisco, on Friday, August 24, followed by Eastern Washington and Seattle, on Saturday, August 25. They will remain at home with the UniWyo Cowgirl Classic the following weekend, Aug. 31-Sept. 1. Wyoming will play Bethune Cookman and George Washington the first day with matches against Florida Gulf Coast and UMKC on Saturday.

Mountain West Conference matches will be played primarily on Thursday's and Saturday's, with two Friday matches. The Cowgirls will begin things on the road with one single match against the New Mexico Lobos, on Saturday, Sept. 22. They will kick off their home MW schedule on Thursday, Sept. 27, against the San Diego State Aztecs and league newcomer Nevada, on Saturday, Sept. 29. Both matches will be played in the UniWyo Sports Complex.
