LARAMIE, Wyo. -
First year head coach Pat Stangle and the University of Wyoming Cowgirl volleyball team will open up with their first practice of the 2004 pre-season on Thursday, August 12th at 9:00 a.m., in the MPG. Stangle welcomes back four starters and six letterwinners from the 2003 squad.
"It is with great anticipation that we look forward to the start of training on Thursday," said Stangle. "With a new coaching staff, new support staff, new systems and methods, and nine freshmen, we are going to approach things on a day to day basis. We have approximately three weeks to prepare for our opening match with Idaho State and we'll need every one of those days to get things in place."
The Cowgirls' first practice will begin on Thursday morning from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Regular weekday practices will be Monday through Friday from 9:00-12:00 and 3:00-5:00 p.m. All practices are open. Coach Stangle and a few Cowgirl players will be available at media day from 3:00 to 3:30 p.m., on Friday, August 13. For regular practice times during the season, please contact Amy Dambro.
The Cowgirls, who finished 15-16 overall and 4-10 in the Mountain West Conference, will open up the 2004 volleyball season by hosting the Cowgirl Classic, Thursday, Friday and Saturday September 2-4 in Laramie, Wyoming, with matches against Idaho State, Final Four participant Minnesota, who is also ranked fifth in the AVCA Preseason Poll, and UT-San Antonio. They will begin play on the road on Tuesday, Sept. 7, against Northern Colorado in Greeley.
