Fourth-year head coach Carrie Yerty and the Wyoming volleyball team will open up the 2011 season this weekend at home as they host the UniWyo Wyoming Invite, Friday-Saturday, August 26-27. They will start things off on Friday, August 26, against the Oregon State Beavers at 1:30 p.m. and the Gonzaga Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. They will take on the South Dakota Coyotes the following day at 1:30 p.m. and the DePaul Blue Demons, at 7:00 p.m., to close out the weekend. The Cowgirls return two starters and nine letterwinners to a squad that finished 22-10 overall and 7-9 in the Mountain West a year ago. 2010 All-Conference selection Jodi Purdy returns after averaging 3.21 kills and 2.61 digs per set, while the Cowgirls other returning starter Reese (Roehrkasse) Plante added 1.51 kills and almost one block in her first season of competition. Other returning letterwinners include senior Tamara Kitic, juniors Makenzie Bartsch and Camille Coffman, and sophomores Rachel Keyes, Calli Miller, Emily Rochelle and Becky Stewart. Wyoming also welcomes five newcomers to the team as well.

The Cowgirls will start off the 2011 season against the Oregon State Beavers, on Friday, August 26. This will also be the first match of the season for the Beavers as well. They are led by Megan McBride who averaged 8.84 assists and 1.64 digs per set last season. OSU returns five starters and nine letterwinners on a team that went 9-23 overall and 2-16 in the Pac 10 a year ago. This is the sixth meeting between the two teams. Oregon State holds the series record 4-1. The last time the two teams met was August 29, 2008 as the Beavers defeated the Cowgirls 3-0. Oregon State is coached by Taras Liskevych who is in his seventh season with the program.

In their second match of the weekend, the Cowgirls will play the Gonzaga Bulldogs on Friday, August 26, at 7:00 p.m. They will play South Dakota before taking on the Cowgirls. They are led by Denise Van de Mortel who averaged 8.98 assists and 2.14 digs per set a year ago. They return three starters and seven letterwinners to a team that went 4-27 overall and 1-13 in the West Coast Conference a year ago. This is eighth meeting between the two schools. Wyoming leads the series 6-1. The last time the two teams met was Sept. 17, 2010. The Cowgirls won the match 3-0. Gonzaga is coached by Dave Gantt who is in his third season.

In their first match on Saturday, the Cowgirls will take on the South Dakota Coyotes. The Coyotes will play Gonzaga and DePaul before taking on Wyoming. USD returns five starters and six letterwinners to a team that went 14-19 overall and 8-4 in the Summit League a year ago. This will be the first ever meeting between the two schools. South Dakota is coached by Matt Houk who is in his fourth season.

UW will wrap up the weekend against the DePaul Blue Demons, on Saturday night, at 7:00 p.m. DePaul returns four starters and eight letterwinners to a team that went 4-26 overall and 1-13 in the Big East Conference a year ago. This is the first ever meeting between the two schools. The Blue Demons are coached by Nadia Edwards who is in her second season with the program.
