Two days after earning Player of the Week honors from the Mountain West, senior Allison Waldvogel garnered the same recognition on a national level as espnW’s national player of the week. She is the first Cowgirl to achieve national player of the week honors from espnW.
Waldvogel, a native of Joliet, Ill., began her senior season by leading the Cowgirls to an undefeated weekend that included an upset over the #14th ranked Ohio State Buckeyes. She highlighted the weekend by earning tournament MVP honors and a team-high 15 digs against the Buckeyes. She added one service ace against OSU before nine digs and four assists against South Dakota. The Cowgirls followed the sweep over USD with a four-set victory against Butler on Saturday night. Waldvogel ended the tournament with a season-high 22 digs with three assists and one service ace. She led the Cowgirls with 4.18 digs per set during the opening tournament of the season.
The Cowgirls (3-0) will return to action this weekend, Sept. 4-5, as they travel to Spokane, Wash., to compete in the Gonzaga Invitational. They will play host Gonzaga at 5 p.m. on Friday and then on Saturday face Utah and Montana at 1 p.m., and 6 p.m., respectively.
